The Pascack Pi-oneers are proud to present our community safety initiative designed to help senior citizens in North Jersey. Our Personal Emergency Cards (PEC) provide critical medical and contact information when it matters most.
Our Personal Emergency Cards initiative was born from a simple observation: in emergency situations, first responders often lack critical information about the patients they're helping. For senior citizens, who may have multiple medical conditions, medications, and specific needs, this information gap can be life-threatening. Our solution? A simple, portable card that puts all essential health information at the fingertips of those who need it most.
Working with a local senior center, we've developed a card format that includes all the vital information first responders need. From medical conditions and current medications to emergency contacts and physician information, our cards ensure that no critical detail is overlooked during an emergency.
In emergency care settings, about 25% of older patients (75+) cannot provide a complete basic medical history at the time of their visit [NIH]. This gap in accessible health data compounds the risk for seniors, especially given the high prevalence of chronic conditions in this age group. In emergency medicine, minutes matter. When critical medical information is unavailable, clinicians face increased risk of medication errors [NIH], delayed treatment, and inappropriate interventions.
